Organizations and colleges have called Miki an instigator, motivator, and big idea generator.
Miki Agrawal is a successful, young social entrepreneur who got her start in the world of investment banking, professional soccer, and commercial television production. At the age of 25, Agrawal discovered her first passion (healthy food) and opened her first farm-to-table pizzeria, WILD NY, without any prior experience and no capital.
Now, seven years later, Agrawal has taken her lessons in entrepreneurship and is sharing her advice and adventures in her new book Do Cool Sh*t: Quit Your Day Job, Start Your Own Business and Live Happily Ever After (HarperBusiness) that already hit #1 Best-Seller in Entrepreneurship on Amazon.
In her book and keynote presentations, Agrawal offers solid insight on everything from how to start a business and fund it on a shoestring budget, to getting free press coverage and assessing a product’s market share. Agrawal is an ideal speaker for schools and universities, women’s expos and conferences, corporations, and start-up organizations.
The success of WILD NY was only the beginning of Agrawal’s entrepreneurial journey. With a Brooklyn outpost and franchise opportunities also in the works, Agrawal is working with local farms and suppliers across the country and is helping to support hundreds of local jobs.
Agrawal’s latest undertaking is THINX, a women’s empowerment and apparel company that provides a sustainable underwear solution for women to wear during their periods. The company also aims to address the problems faced by women and girls in developing countries who don’t readily have access to menstrual products. THINX has teamed up with AFRIpads, an organization in Uganda, to fund a pack of reusable cloth menstrual pads for every pair of underwear sold in an effort to get millions of girls around the world back in school. To date, Miki and her Company have helped over 30,000 girls go back to school.
Her next big focus is solving the light bladder leakage problem that moms are facing today and giving women who leak the ability to feel like themselves again. 1 in 3 women pee a little when they laugh, jump, jog, sneeze or cough and yet that’s still taboo? So she and her team created a special gorgeous patented underwear called ICON to remind these women that they’re powerful women first and mothers second. For every Icon sold, they are funding Fistula Foundation to fight the fistula crisis in Africa and other developing countries.
Her most recent side hustle is called TUSHY: For People Who Poop aiming to upgrade the American bathroom experience and to help fight the global sanitation crisis that is affecting 40% of the world. #defecatewithdignity
A graduate of Cornell University, Agrawal was named one of the “Top 30 Most Influential People at Cornell” during her senior year. She was named 2015 Social Entrepreneur of the Year at the World Technology Awards and her Company THINX was named Time Magazine’s “25 Best New Inventions of 2015″. Miki is the recipient of the 2013 TriBeCa Film Festival’s “Disruptive Innovation Award” and was named one of the “Top 20 Millenials on a Mission” in 2013 by Forbes.
She has spoken and given keynotes at the United Nations’ Global Youth Summit, the Forbes Women’s Summit, Harvard, Princeton, the Vegas Downtown Project, TEDx Cornell, Cornell Entrepreneurship Summit, Summit Series, Khiels Sustainability Summit, as well as hundreds of colleges and corporate events.
She has been featured in the New York Times, New York Magazine, Time Magazine, Huffington Post, Forbes, Mic.com, Refinery29, and thousands of other publications.
